Happy Birthday to Me!
Born under the sign of Cancer, my birthday falls on the holiday weekend. As a child, I was often disappointed that friends could not come to my party, or that we would be off on a summer vacation. My favorite cake was vanilla with marshmallow frosting, covered in toasted coconut (Recipe posted here) and I am making it again this year.
Of course, the best part of a birthday is receiving gifts. Not all are useful, yet it does require thought on behalf of the giver. Choosing a birthday gift requires pause and reflection, consideration of personal taste and usefulness. Since it marks a special occasion, it should be that will form a memory or friendship connection.
Receiving gifts is a wonderful tradition, and as a writer and a reader, my favorite gift to give and receive is a book. (Okay, I admit that I also love flowers.) It hasn’t always been this way, because truthfully, some books I have received have found their way to the library sale. Finding the right book for someone else takes knowing that person well, and not choosing something that you might like for yourself.
I have come to recognize that giving a garden book, or a cookbook are usually safe bets. Almost everyone I know loves to garden and/or cook. Furthermore they are not usually best sellers, and therefor unlikely to be a duplicate.
If you have a friend with a birthday coming up, why not consider giving them a copy of my book, The Complete Kitchen Garden. Order from your local bookstore, or directly from me for an autographed copy. Special this month! Free shipping on all orders. Price for the book is $25.95.
Since I don’t have a “store” on my website, here’s how to do it:
- E-mail your order directly to me at ellen@ellenogden.com
- Add the name to inscribe for a personalized note from me.
- Be sure to include your shipping address and a phone number.
- Before I ship, I will call you for your CC# information and confirm that your order is on its way.
